Fires produce a substance called soot that settles in every hard place of the damaged area caused by the fire.
The definition for Soot: It is a black, powdery substance produced when fire does not completely burn its fuel source.
After everything is settled you need to clean the soot from everything and everywhere, which can become very difficult. SERVPRO has specialty Equipment that is used for these situations. We have a Wet/Dry Abrasive Blast System that helps to remove the soot stuck in crevice's that simple wiping can't remove. It has a high air force with a substance that is blown in and removes the soot.
We were able to use this on a house's joists throughout. This process can make the cleaning go a bit faster and allow some of the structure to be kept instead of removed on the job.
